Here's The Siggtuation...

Remember the Bisphenal A scare? How we all tossed our plastic water bottles and sippy cups to virtuously drop silly amounts of cash on safe replacements? OK, do you also know the rest of the story? I keep meeting people who don't. Head's up! If you have a Sigg bottle that was manufactured before August 2008 then you're sucking back the very poison that you were avoiding when you dropped all that coin about a year ago! How can we possibly know when our bottle was manufactured is the next helpless thought that crosses the mind, right? Click for a visual comparison of the old ("BPA free!" but actually not) liner and the new ("BPA free! but now I don't believe you) liner. If you haven't lost all faith in Sigg, they are aiming to redeem themselves with an exchange program. You send your old bottles back and they'll replace them up until October 31st. Shipping is all yours (thumbs down), but when you have a bunch of them lying around it's still worth it. I shipped 4 bottles for $12. A Sigg rep is supposed to be in touch when they receive them but I shipped... well, over 2 weeks ago... Yes, I feel betrayed. I should really try to love another. (Water Geeks... Klean Kanteen... It's not you, it's me.) Dear Sigg, I think I love you. I know I need you. Call me.

  1. A devastating betrayal! Sigg has been so righteously right...this is the Age of Hype and the Age of Confusion and the Age of the Retracting our Statements...just like that "we should all drink 8 or more glasses of water a day" "and not out of the tap" "but not out of plastic bottles" and "actually, yes out of the tap" "but only if you want some meds in it" "actually, you should get a filter" "but not a plastic one" Now I've just lost a tuft of hair over Sigg's bottle lining rotting my children's guts.....if someone tells me that glass is not safe to drink from either I'm going to go bald.

  2. It's been 3 weeks now... Has anyone else done this exchange? How long did it take?

  3. What the What?!?! I had no idea! I've always thought it was rediculous how environmentally unfriendly and unnecessary bottled water was in Western Civilization, and these water bottle replacement options are only a way to capitalize on this societal need. I definitely think taking water on the go is necessary but what ever happened to the good ol' fashion leather water canteens? How bad were those for us? They wre totally thought through - they kept your water cool in deserts, held almost a litre, came with a shoulder strap making them harder to lose, which is why they were considered life long investments, which is much less damaging on the planet than something that gets replaced at least once a year. I say we bring 'em back. Leather or non-leather (depending on if you're a vegan) these are still out there for us to create a globally conscious fad out of.

  5. My new Sigg bottle arrived last week by courier. I got a call a few weeks ago from a Sigg person asking me to select a new style from their website, as the pink paisley skulls had been discontinued. Be patient, the bottles will come...
